Balloon Release

Happy Birthday Tate!

This past Thursday was Tate's 4th birthday. Mike was on a business trip to Illinois. The kids and I decide to celebrate by making the day 'all about Tate'. We started off with breakfast(McDonalds and Simones) compliments of Nonnie. Buddy had picked out special Big Bird birthday plates that he thought Tate would really love. :) Throughout the day we released balloons for Tate. Bailey had the idea that if we stood on the playset the balloons would travel a little further and maybe reach Tate! The sadness of not having Tate with us was unexpectedly covered with our HOPE that he will celebrate his next birthday at home...we will make it a BIG one!

Tate

History

Here is a bit of history regarding our adoption of Tate. We started to talk about adopting a child with special needs before we were married (Tate has Down Syndrome). We were unsure of my ability to conceive children with my medical history. Either way we knew we wanted a large family. Both of us were in a agreement that at some point we would like to add a child with special needs to our family. Fast forward through nearly nine years and four biologically blessings and you are up to date! After starting the adoption process several months ago we decide to place things on hold due to our upcoming move to Colorado. A tug at our hearts made us rethink our decision to wait. The MOMENT we saw Tate we KNEW that he was meant to be part of our family. It took close to two months and several name mix-ups to finalize just who our little guy was and that he was "adoptable". We initially decided that we would adopt Tate through the state of Colorado. This however became nearly impossible because we were not physically living in Colorado. Our Homestudy is now being completed with a wonderful adoption agency in California, Heartsent.

The Journey Begins

We have been in the adoption process for the past few months. I am hoping this blog will be a window into our lives as well as a way for me to keep track of everything that we have going on. Hope you enjoy the journey!
